Authorizations in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (Dynamics AX)

2-Control has been developing authorization solutions in Microsoft Dynamics for a long time, both with cloud solution Authorization Box as well as in our services. Until a year ago, the focus here was mainly on Dynamics 365 Business Central (D365BC) and its predecessors. In 2019 we decided to make our software and services also available for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365FO) and Dynamics AX 2012.

We focus on two areas when expanding our software and services:

• The software is aimed at monitoring the quality of authorizations;
• The services are aimed at support in setting up authorizations.

Our software developers are making a lot of progress in Authorization Box and can already show the first monitoring results on AX2012 and D365FO via this environment. We expect to be able to make Authorization Box available to AX2012 and D365FO users before the end of 2020.

Insights and approach

We have already gained experience in various environments with supporting customers in setting up authorizations in D365FO and AX2012. We understand why this is a major problem for many companies. The authorizations in D365FO and AX2012 cannot be compared with those of D365BC in terms of complexity. For this reason, we have also opted for a standard approach and a number of important principles for setting up authorizations in D365FO / AX2012 and will publish a number of blogs about this in the near future.
